Welcome to the St. Mary of the Assumption Lector Ministry!

What We Do

Simply put, the role of the Lector is to proclaim the Word of God!

To “proclaim” God’s word is more than reading the scriptures aloud. It must be uttered with conviction, clarity, and skill.  Proclaiming God’s Word is an honor.

The call to be a Lector is something that demands preparation. In becoming a Lector, you are accepting the responsibility to do your best, to practice, to self-evaluate and to continually look for ways to improve your ability to communicate the Word of God clearly to the congregation. The most important time requirement is to become familiar with the message of your reading by practicing several times before Mass.

The Lector ministry is a wonderful way to serve and an extremely rewarding ministry.  Through you, God’s living Word will be proclaimed to all of His people; the troubled, the young, the old, the happy, the sick and those in need of comfort.  To be a Lector is to be given an opportunity for your own personal growth in Jesus Christ.
